The University of Illinois Springfield improved their record to 31-11 (21-7 GLVC) after winning three of four in Kirksville, Mo. this weekend. The Prairie Stars combined for 35 runs over the four-game series
GAME ONE (W, 13-3)
UIS took the first game of the series by the 10-run rule. The Prairie Stars started hot, scoring six runs in the second inning with the assistance of extra-base hits by
Sam Bieser and
Asher Bradd. Bieser homered in the first and fourth innings, nearly hitting back to back home runs when he flied out to center field in the second inning. He went 3-4 with four RBIs and two runs while Bradd had three RBIs and a run in his 3-4 showing.Â
The Prairie Stars got rolling again in the sixth when
Mike O'Conor and
TJ Yakimisky singled before
Sam Bieser doubled through the left side for Yakimisky to score.Â
Chad Saner went the full seven, improving to 6-1 on the season.
GAME TWO (W, 10-1)
The Prairie Stars outhit the Bulldogs 10-3 in the first of two seven inning games on Saturday, including two home runs and four doubles.
Sam Bieser and
Peyton Dillingham each had a pair of hits, runs, and RBIs. Bieser and
Will Oberg also homered during game two of the series.
Ryan Carmack struck out eight in six innings to improve to 5-2.Â
GAME THREE (W, 11-1)
Adam Brouwer improved to 6-1, allowing just four hits and one run over six innings.Â
The offense combined for six extra-base hits including three doubles, triples by
Asher Bradd and
Anthony Deconcilis, and a home run by
Raul Ortega. UIS took off with five runs in the first inning starting with an RBI single by
Brandon Bannon. Bannon then scored on a single by
Mike O'Conor before Ortega's homer.Â
The Prairie Stars then scored one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings before adding four more runs in the final inning.
Sam Bieser doubled to left field to start the Stars off in the seventh. AJ Golembiewski pinch ran for Bieser and scored on a single by
Peyton Dillingham, then Dilinghan scored when Deconcilis tripled to right center.
Will Oberg reached first on an error after a Bulldogs pitching change, then scored on a triple by
Asher Bradd.Â
GAME FOUR (L, 8-1)
The Prairie Stars dropped game four on Sunday. The Bulldogs first took the lead with a solo run in the third inning, but pulled ahead with a 3 RBI home run in the fifth.Â
UIS's attempts to rally fell short as they were held to five hits and left four runners on base.
Sam Bieser put up a home run in the top of the ninth but the Stars could not complete a comeback in the series finale.
Connor McKenna fell to 3-4.Â
Next weekend the UIS baseball team will travel to St. Louis, Mo. to face UMSL in its final weekend of the regular season.Â
