Softball Starts Final Homestand with a Split

The University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars split a pair with the Rockhurst Hawks in Springfield on Saturday to start their final weekend at home this regular season.

GAME ONE
Reagan Miles started Saturday right with her fifth career complete-game shutout. Miles struck out eight in seven total innings, allowing two hits, two walks and zero runs. The Senior improved to 11-4 as she pitched her 100th inning of the season.

The Prairie Stars outhit the Hawks 7-2 and scored one run in each of the third and sixth innings. UIS tallied three hits in the bottom of the third. Sophie Margelot got UIS started with a double to left field before singles by Danielle Dennis and Jillian Mathis. Margelot scored the first run of the day when Mathis singled through the left side.

Isabella Wilson was walked in the sixth before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Wilson then scored the final run of the game on an Ella Brinkley single.

GAME TWO
Game two of the doubleheader remained scoreless through three innings. The Hawks put a point on the board in the fourth before UIS responded with a Danielle Dennis double. Dennis scored after a sac bunt by Jillian Mathis and a sac fly by Isabella Wilson. Rockhurst scored one run in each of the fifth and seventh innings, leaving UIS responseless.

Taylor Zawacki fell to 8-10 with the loss.

UIS will be at home again tomorrow for a Senior Day doubleheader versus the William Jewell Cardinals.
