UIS Softball Sweeps William Jewell With a Pair of Shutouts

Reagan Miles and Taylor Zawacki led the Prairie Stars to a doubleheader sweep against the William Jewell Cardinals in Springfield on Sunday, each throwing a 12-strikeout shutout.

GAME ONE (W, 3-0)
Senior Reagan Miles (12-4) took the game one start in the circle, throwing her second shutout of the weekend and striking out 12 Cardinals along the way. Miles took a commanding start when she struck out three in a row in the top of the first. She bettered her season and career-best total of 11 strikeouts from a shutout versus McKendree earlier this spring. William Jewell managed just four hits.

UIS put their first point on the board when senior Carolyn Franke scored on a double by Taylor Zawacki. A Ramsey Armstrong double in the sixth sent Franke and Ashley Klinzing in to round out scoring for game one.

Franke went 3-for-3 with two runs while another senior, Ashley Klinzing, went 2-for-3 with one run. Ramsey Armstrong had two hits and two runs batted in.

GAME TWO (W, 4-0)
Game two starter Taylor Zawacki (9-10) followed Miles' script to strike out 12 in a shutout of her own, nearing her career-best of 13 strikeouts.

The Prairie Stars scored four runs and left the bases loaded in the only scoring inning of the game. UIS hit six singles including a 2 RBI single by Isabella Wilson that allowed Danielle Dennis and Olivia DeLuca to score. Ella Brinkley went 2-3 with one RBI and two stolen bases.

UIS improves to 31-18. Their 12-8 GLVC record is tied with McKendree and Lewis while Indianapolis leads with an 18-1 conference record. The Prairie Stars will play Drury and Southwest Baptist on the road on April 29-30 to close out the regular season. The GLVC Tournament will take place at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill. on May 4-7.
