After dropping the series opener against Trevecca Nazarene, the University of Illinois Springfield baseball team rallied to take the series over the Trojans in Nashville, Tenn.
GAME ONE
Chad Saner (2-2) started game one for UIS, picking up nine strikeouts but allowing four runs in his five innings of work.
The Prairie Stars scored twice on five hits, including two apiece by
Brandon Bannon and
Peyton Dillingham, but left six on base.
GAME TWO
Adam Brouwer (1-0) earned the win in the next game when he allowed one hit and struck out five opponents in three innings.
Ian Delleman had the save, collecting six of the Prairie Star's seventeen strikeouts.
The UIS bats came to life in game two when the Prairie Stars recorded 12 hits. It wasn't until the top of the sixth inning that UIS was able to send runners home. Dahlberg, Bannon, Dillingham, and Vanaman all hit singles, Dahlberg scored and the remaining runners were left stranded.
Mack Clark hit a two RBI double down the right field line to allow
Brandon Bannon and
Ivan Dahlberg to score in the top of the eighth. The Trojans did not respond in their half of the inning and UIS earned its first win of the series.
GAME THREE
Brandon Bannon and
Asher Bradd had two hits apiece in game three, while Bannon also added five RBI.
Peyton Dillingham homered in the top of the sixth, recording a total of four RBI during the final game of the series
The Prairie Stars scored three runs in each of the third and fourth innings, and secured the win with four more in the top of the sixth.
Connor McKenna (2-1) earned the win on the mound after allowing just two hits and one run in 5.1 innings. McKenna recorded nine of the team's ten strikeouts.
UIS will return home this weekend to take on the Drury Panthers in their conference opener.
