The University of Illinois Springfield softball team split a two-game matchup versus the Maryville Saints in St. Louis, Mo. on Monday.
GAME ONE (W, 5-2)
Taylor Zawacki earned her fifth win of the spring, allowing four hits and two runs as she struck out four Saints in 5.2 innings.
Rosie Bartletti earned the save and tallied three strikeouts.
UIS put itself on the board first when
Danielle Dennis scored on a sacrifice fly by
Olivia DeLuca.
Taylor Zawacki scored on a triple by
Rosie Bartletti in the second inning, and Bartletti scored on an error to build a three-point lead.
Danielle Dennis scored on a sacrifice fly by
Isabella Wilson, and
Jillian Mathis scored when
Olivia DeLuca tripled to right field in the seventh inning. Dennis tallied two hits and two runs while
Olivia DeLuca earned one hit and two RBI.
GAME TWO (L, 12-6)
A six-run game by the Prairie Stars wasn't enough as Maryville scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth and three runs in each of the last two innings.
The Prairie Stars earned seven hits and six runs, with
Danielle Dennis recording two of each. Dennis homered in the top of the fifth to cut Maryville's lead to two runs before the Saints scored three runs in their half of the inning.
Addyson McClure (2-1) recorded her first loss of 2023.
UIS is now 19-10 overall and 1-1 in GLVC play. Prairie Stars softball will host Indianapolis and McKendree in Springfield this weekend.
