The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team swept Bemidji State this weekend. The first win of the series was career win No. 100 for Head Coach
Ryan Copeland.
SATURDAY
UIS won 12-0 to start the series. The pitching staff combined for 24 strikeouts, including 11 by
Chad Saner (2-0) in game one. Saner allowed just four hits and no earned runs in seven innings.
Offensively,
Will Oberg had three hits, two runs, and three RBI.
Johnny Colombo had two hits, one run, and one RBI, and
Anthony Deconcilis drove in three runners.
Ian Delleman earned the win in game two, which the Prairie Stars won 4-3. The Bemidji State Beavers scored three runs in the top of the first when a walked batter was followed by three singles. UIS responded with one run in each of the first three innings, and scored their fourth run when
Brant Vanaman scored on a single by
Will Oberg.
SUNDAY
The Prairie Stars scored a total of 30 runs in Sunday's doubleheader. UIS started the day with a 14-2 win in which
Ryan Carmack and
Riley Kocen each allowed just one hit. Carmack (2-0) earned the win after striking out a record 15 batters in six innings.
Asher Bradd led the offense with four hits, three runs, and three RBI,
Brant Vanaman collected three hits, three runs, and three RBI.
UIS closed the weekend by starting their 16-5 win with five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Raul Ortega drove three runners in, and was one of four Prairie Stars with home runs.

Will Oberg, and
Anthony Deconcilis also hit homers.

UIS will travel to Nashville, Tenn. next weekend for a three-game series versus Trevecca Nazarene. Trevecca is 3-7, averaging 4.4 runs per game.
