The University of Illinois Springfield Softball team threw back-to-back shutouts in Smyrna, Tenn. on Friday. UIS took down Tiffin 16-0 and won 6-0 over Cedarville.
GAME ONE
UIS got off to a hot start in the first of two wins over regional opponents on Friday.The Prairie Stars stole three bases and collected three runs in the first inning alone, then scored five runs in the second and fifth innings.
Ashley Klinzing and
Emma Garcia each had two hits and two RBI while
Isabella Wilson and
Rosie Bartletti each had three runs.
Rosie Bartletti improved her record to 1-1 on the mound. Bartletti allowed five hits and walked one batter in five innings.
The Prairie Stars averaged 40.7% with 11 hits in 27 at-bats. UIS had their most runs in a single game since the 2021 season.
GAME TWO
Taylor Zawacki started and collected her first win of the season (1-0) and
Reagan Miles recorded a save by pitching for the final three innings. Each pitcher allowed just one hit.
Ella Brinkley led the offense against Cedarville with three hits, one run, and three RBI.
Danielle Dennis and
Jillian Mathis each had two hits. The Prairie Stars started strong again in the second game with three runs in the first inning.
Eleven hits, seven stolen bases, and a strong performance by the pitching staff led UIS to their third straight win.
UIS will play Ashland at 3:00 p.m. and Harding at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
