Softball Defeats Lincoln Before Giving No. 1 Rogers State a Scare

The University of Illinois Springfield softball team split the second day of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic when they defeated Lincoln (Mo.) 5-2 and fell by one run to the No. 1 team in Division II. 


UIS VERSUS LINCOLN (MO)
UIS started hot in their first game of the day with three singles, three stolen bases two runs in the first inning. Lincoln was unable to respond until after UIS scored two more runs in the third inning. Lincoln was only able to cut the deficit to 4-2. An RBI single by Jillian Mathis gave Ashley Klinzing her third run of the day. 

Danielle Dennis and Ashley Klinzing led the offense in game one. Dennis had two hits, three RBI, and one run, while Klinzing had four hits and three runs. 

UIS VERSUS ROGERS STATE
The No. 1 Hillcats were able to put five points on the board before UIS could respond. The Prairie Stars scored two runs in the top of the fifth. Ella Brinkley scored off of a double play by Rosie Bartletti. Bartletti then stole third base, and an RBI by Isabella Wilson allowed her to claim her first run as a Prairie Star. 

UIS put itself in contention in the sixth inning by scoring three runs. The Prairie Stars scored two runs on steal attempts, and Jaden Watts scored the final run for UIS on an RBI single by Rosie BartlettiElla Brinkley and Rosie Bartletti each collected three hits and Brinkley had two runs. 

UIS (1-2) will play their final two games of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic on Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m.
