The University of Illinois Springfield softball team dropped its season opener against No. 22 Washburn by a 3-0 margin.
The Washburn Ichabods scored one run in the first inning and two more in the third, holding the Prairie Stars scoreless to take their fifth win of the season.
Reagan Miles relieved
Taylor Zawacki in the third, allowing the Ichabods just three hits in the remainder of the matchup. UIS attempted to rally in the sixth inning, but left two on base.
The Prairie Stars finished the game with 4 hits in comparison to Washburn's 9.
Isabella Wilson had a double in her debut for the Prairie Stars, while
Ramsey Armstrong,
Danielle Dennis, and
Jillian Mathis also collected one hit apiece.
UIS will continue play at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic tomorrow with games against Lincoln (Mo.) and No. 1 Rogers State.
