The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team fell twice to No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C. on Friday.
No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne captured the first game by a 3-2 margin. UIS scored first, but a pair of home runs by the Bears late in the game left the Prairie Stars down by 1.
In the first contest, UIS led 2-0 after
Colton Klein singled through the left side in the top of the sixth allowing
Brant Vanaman and
Brandon Bannon to score. Lenoir-Rhyne responded with a home run to tie the game 2-2, and sealed the deal with one more home run in the bottom of the seventh.
The second game got off to an even start with UIS and Lenoir-Rhyne scoring one run apiece in the first inning.
Will Oberg and
Zach Dillman scored for the Prairie Stars in the second inning to give UIS the lead. A three-run sixth inning put the Bears ahead for the final time.
Asher Bradd led the offense in game two with three hits, a double, and one run. UIS had a total of six hits, in comparison to 12 hits by Lenoir-Rhyne.
UIS and Lenoir-Rhyne will conclude their four-game series on Saturday afternoon.
