The UIS Athletic Department has announced that Cort Ross is the November 2023 Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month. UIS student-athletes who have competed in regular season or postseason competition during the month of November were voted on by a committee.

Ross earned All-Region honors on Nov. 4, finishing third overall and leading the team to fifth place. His performance allowed him to qualify for nationals as an individual. He went on to finish 18th at the NCAA DII Men's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 18 to become the UIS men's cross country program's second USTFCCCA All-American in as many years. Ross had the historical best finish of any Prairie Star at the Midwest Regional (3rd) and the National Championship (18th). 

Cort Ross was also in the running for The Elite 90, an NCAA award presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.

Jimmy John's Athlete of the Month honorees from the 2023-24 year will be under consideration for UIS Male Athlete of the Year and UIS Female Athlete of the Year this upcoming spring.
