11/14/2023 5:10:00 PM

The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team will continue their season with their first home game of the season on Wednesday at TRAC. The Prairie Stars host NAIA school Judson University at 6:00 p.m.

UIS (1-3)

Last weekend, the Prairie Stars traveled to Owensboro, Kentucky to participate at the Midwest Region Crossover against two in-region opponents.

Friday night's contest came against the host institution, Kentucky Wesleyan. UIS came out with some hot shooting, and never trailed in the contest. Jayden Johnson led UIS in scoring with 14 points while the trio of Jacob Hanna, Evan Altman, and Jack Weber scored 12 points apiece. The Prairie Stars averaged 59.3% from the field and 50% in three-point shooting, compared to 43.9% and 19% by KWC. The Prairie Stars ended up winning the game 74-62, picking up their first win of the 2023 season.

On Saturday afternoon, UIS matched up against a strong Parkside squad that was coming off a win against nationally ranked Indianapolis on Friday. The Prairie Stars had a balanced offensive effort with Jordan Rice putting up 14 points while Jacob Hanna and Jack Weber each had 12 and Max Kunnert contributed 11. UIS shot 51.1% (24-47) from the field, attempting just eight three-pointers and making four. Parkside outscored UIS 13-3 on second chance points, 23-13 in points off turnovers. The Prairie Stars led 34-28 in points in the paint and 7-2 on fast breaks. The Rangers won the game 75-66, and started the season 2-0.

Judson (0-4)

The Judson Eagles are currently 0-4 on the season, with their only game last week coming against Rockford University.

The Eagles started the contest well, but a quick Rockford run at the end of the first half put the Regents on top for the rest of the game. Judson had three players in double-digit scoring; Sam Ellis with 18, Javaris Wiggins with 14, and Gavin Alston with 15 points off the bench. Ellis and Alston combined for 5 three-pointers made. The Regents ended up winning the contest 83-73. Wiggins leads the team in average points per game with 18.3.
