The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team heads into the last weekend of conference play with two important road matches that will determine the GLVC Regular Season Champion. The Prairie Stars face Lewis on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., and Indianapolis on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. UIS is currently ranked 10th in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Poll.
UIS (10-1-4, 9-0-2)
The Prairie Stars come into the final weekend on top of the GLVC table after picking up four points last weekend.
Friday night against UMSL saw many chances for the Prairie Stars, but only resulted in one goal. The lone goal came from Max Tweddle crossing the ball into the box where Riccardo Sandulli guided it into the bottom corner with his head. This was the second game in a row where UIS won 1-0 from a Sandulli goal. UIS outshot UMSL 17-1, with a 10-1 advantage in shots on target.
Sunday afternoon against McKendree was an level battle for each defense and neither team gave up many chances. There were only six shots the entire game, as both teams registered three. UIS had 2 shots on target to McKendree's 1. The story of the game was Riccardo Sandulli being shown a straight red in the 84th minute of the match.
Lewis (8-2-4, 8-1-2)
Lewis currently sits 2nd in the GLVC table after picking up four points last weekend.
Friday night saw Lewis line up against a 6-4-3 (5-3-3 GLVC) Truman State squad. The Bulldogs took the early advantage from a set-piece routine in the 9th minute of action. Lewis would respond quickly, as Marco Holzer scored in the 16th minute. The rest of the match featured chances for both squads, but neither were able to score again as the points were shared. Truman outshot Lewis 15-12, with a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Sunday afternoon against Upper Iowa resulted in a wild 3-2 win for the Flyers. Mikey Revell started the scoring early for the Flyers, as he netted his first goal of the season in the 2nd minute. In the second-half UIU scored two goals in five minutes and took a 2-1 lead. Lewis responded with an equalizing goal from Joram Bogers in the 69th minute. The winner was scored in the 76th minute and came from Godwin Asore. Both teams pushed for another goal, but the score ended 3-2 in favor of the Flyers. Lewis outshot the Peacocks 17-16, with UIU edging the Flyers 8-7 in shots on target.
Lewis is led by Joram Bogers, who has scored 7 goals and 2 assists on the year. Godwin Asore and Marco Holzer both have 3 goals on the season. Asore also leads the team in assists with 5.

UIS holds an 11-13-1 all-time record against the Flyers. Last year's matchup saw the Prairie Stars win in Romeoville with a 3-1 scoreline. UIS has won the last three meetings between the teams.
Indianapolis (9-1-4, 7-1-3)

Friday night against Upper Iowa ended in one of the most shocking results of the conference season, as UIU beat Indianapolis 2-0. The Peacocks took the lead just 3 minutes into the match as Daniel Pranger finished from close range following a long throw. The second goal for the Peacocks also came from a throw-in, as Mateo Rodriguez cut through the Greyhound defense and finished into the top corner in the 69th minute. Indy outshots UIU 32-6, with a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Sunday afternoon the Greyhounds looked to bounce back from their shock Friday defeat, which they did in style. The Greyhounds scored early and often as they left Kirksville with a 5-0 win. Indy had five different goalscorers on the day; Roman Beko, Jona Hogle, Carl Ringstrom, August Abrahamsen, and Owen Atkinson. Indy outshot TSU 16-12, with an 8-3 advantage in shots on target.
The Greyhounds have a very balanced attack, as five different players have scored three or more goals on the season. Michael Tselios is one of those five players with three goals, but also has a team-leading five assists.
Indianapolis hosts Quincy on Friday night before welcoming UIS on Sunday.
UIS vs. UIndy History
UIS holds a 1-13-2 all-time record against Indianapolis. Last year, the teams played to a 1-1 draw on a rainy night in Springfield. The lone win against the Greyhounds came in 2018 off a goal from Ed Rose.
