The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team had its first win of the Summer Quesenberry era on Saturday. The Prairie Stars won over the Rockhurst Hawks by a final score of 84-71.
Ava Bardic and
Ariyah Douglas made two free throws apiece in the final minute to help secure the win.
UIS took the lead early and trailed just once in the final three quarters of the game. The Prairie Stars made 10 of 25 attempted three pointers while holding the Hawks to just 1 of 17. UIS was 20-24 from the free throw line, with
Ariyah Douglas making all eight of her attempts. Douglas was key for the Prairie Stars with 21 points, four assists, and five rebounds.
Liz Uhl had 19 points, three assists, four rebounds, and four steals.
Brianna Zajicek had 13 points, and
Ivey Schmidt collected 12.
The Prairie Stars are now 1-13 on the season and 1-5 in the GLVC. UIS women's basketball returns home on Thursday, Jan. 12 to host Southwest Baptist.
