UIS men's basketball will host two GLVC opponents at TRAC this week. The Prairie Stars will face No. 10 Indianapolis first, tipping off at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday for their Coaches vs. Cancer game.
The American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer - Suits And Sneakers Week is recognized from Jan. 23 to Jan. 29. It is a nationwide event that unites coaches from across the country in raising funds and awareness about the fight against cancer. Matt Brock and his coaching staff are proudly participating in the American Cancer Society - Suits And Sneakers Week by wearing their sneakers with their suits to inspire hope and raise awareness about the fight against cancer.
Indianapolis enters the contest with a 10-win streak. The Greyhounds moved up eight places in the NABC Coaches Poll in Week 10 for a No. 10 national ranking. UIndy is 8-2 in the GLVC and 16-2 overall this season.
The Greyhounds lead the GLVC in scoring defense averaging 61.2 points, and are second to Missouri S&T in scoring offense with 79 points per game. UIndy's Kendrick Tchoua is the only player in the GLVC with a field goal percentage above Prairie Star Jack Weber's. Weber averages an impressive 60% from the field, and Tchoua leads the conference with 73.2%.
UIS will host McKendree at 3 p.m. on Saturday for their Alumni Day game. McKendree enters the contest coming off a win over Lewis and a loss to Indianapolis. The 8-9 (4-6 GLVC) Bearcats average 73.4 points per game and a 48.1% field goal percentage. UIS is 15-20 against McKendree all-time dating back to their first matchup in 2002. McKendree won the last three meetings between the two teams.
The Prairie Stars have three players with a three-point percentage above 50%, led by Jack Weber at the 60.5% mark. Jacob Hanna averages 53.5%, and Chandler Jackson rounds out the group with 52.3%. Weber is also the leading scorer with an average of 13.5 points per game, followed by Max Kunnert with 9.4, and Jordan Rice with 8.9.
