The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team struck first on Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo., but it could not hold on to that lead. The Prairie Stars dropped the GLVC match to Maryville by a 4-1 margin.
Â
Just over seven minutes into the game, UIS worked the ball all the way down the field.
Billy Nzojyibwami dribbled just outside the box and delivered a perfect pass to
Rory Carlson the right post.
Rory Carlson was able to get a foot on it and redirect it into the left side of the net.
Â
Maryville answered though 10 minutes later, and the two teams were tied at halftime. The second half was all Saints though as they scored three times for the three-goal victory. All three were from close range as the Maryville front line kept getting past the UIS defenders.
Â
Maryville outshot the Prairie Stars by a 17-7 margin, and had an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Both goalies made four saves in the game. The Saints had a small advantage in possession time as they held the ball for 53 percent of the game.
