Women's Soccer Wins GLVC Opener For Fourth Time Since 2018

The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team won its conference opener at home on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Missouri S&T. The Prairie Stars have now won their first conference game of the year in four out of the last five seasons.
 
UIS struck twice in less than five minutes in the first half to grab a commanding 2-0 lead. Ally Lassetter scored in the 27th minute, followed by a Sierra Cenek goal in the 31st. Jamie Handyside assisted on the second score.
 
The Prairie Stars then iced the victory when Lassetter scored her second goal of the game in the second half at the 57-minute mark. Abby Dellamorte assisted on that tally.
 
For the match, UIS outshot Missouri S&T 14-5, and the Prairie Stars did not allow a shot on goal. Allison Mirimanian earned the win in goal with her third shutout of the season. Hilppa Tuomainen, Megan Little, and Louis Anderson anchored the back line and all three played all 90 minutes. Cenek finished the game with five shots and three shots on goal. Lassetter had three shots and two shots on goal.
 
UIS improves to 2-2-2 overall on the year. The Prairie Stars hit the road next week for GLVC games against Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis.
