The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team fell for the first time in 2022 on Thursday night at Kiwanis Stadium. The Prairie Stars dropped a 3-2 decision to the visiting Trevecca Nazarene Trojans.
Â
The game was fairly even, with UIS having an 11-10 shot advantage, and Trevecca Nazarene leading 5-3 in shots on goal. Possession time favored the Prairie Stars 55-45, but most of the action on the night was around midfield. The big difference came in the timing of the goals, as the Prairie Stars were forced to play behind for all but 3:41 of the game.
Â
Trevecca Nazarene scored first in the 3rd minute of the contest, which turned out to be the only goal in the first half. Right out of halftime, UIS struck in the 48th minute. The Trojans though responded with two goals in the 49th and 51st minute, and they were able to hang on as the Prairie Stars scored just once more.
Â
The first UIS goal came on good passing in its attacking zone, and eventually
Sierra Cenek had a goal right in front of the keeper after receiving a pass from
Abby Dellamorte. The second goal came on a free kick just outside the box, which
Ally Lassetter put in the net.
Â
UIS falls to 1-1-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars will be back in action on Saturday at Findlay.
