The University of Illinois Springfield and Tiffin women's soccer teams played a roller coaster game on Saturday afternoon at Kiwanis Stadium in Springfield, Ill. The two teams were tied at two when the final horn sounded.
Â
UIS had possession advantage early on, but the Dragons turned the tables with a goal in the 10th minute. The Prairie Stars continued to control play in the first half but they never scored despite having a 12-2 advantage in shots.
Â
In the second half, the Prairie Stars quickly changed the momentum of the game with two goals in a 73 second span. The first was scored by
Sierra Cenek off an assist from
Madison Grandys. The second was a strike off the foot of
Anna Schurz.
Â
UIS appeared it would hold on to that lead until Tiffin got behind the Prairie Stars defense late in the game. The Dragons knotted the game at two with less than three minutes of action remaining.
Â
UIS had a 54-46 advantage in possession time, and most of that possession was on the Tiffin side of the field. UIS had 20 shots, compared to six for the Dragons. The Prairie Stars also had 10 shots on goal, five more than their opponent.
Â
The Prairie Stars are now 1-0-1 on the young season. UIS will return to Kiwanis Stadium on Thursday night for a 6 p.m. game against Trevecca Nazarene.
