The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team lost a shootout against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday afternoon in Michigan. The Prairie Stars fell to the Cardinals by a 5-3 score.

The Prairie Stars came out flat and allowed two goals in the first five minutes. It needed less than 11 minutes, though, to not only tie the game, but also take the lead.
Max Tweddle,
Drew Keller, and
Lucas Harris all scored in a three-minute span to give UIS an advantage. Ridley assisted on Tweddle's goal, and Tweddle had an assist on Keller's score.

After five goals in the first 16 minutes of the game, the two teams settle down and there were 56 minutes without a score. That changed when the Cardinals offense caught fire late in the game. Saginaw Valley tied the contest in the 72nd minute, took the lead in the 82nd minute, and added an insurance goal in the 86th.

UIS was outshot 13-10 in the game, but the Prairie Stars did have an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. Saginaw Valley had three more saves in the game, which proved to be the big difference.

The Prairie Stars fall to 0-2 on the year. UIS has its home opener on Wednesday afternoon with a noon game against Parkside at Kiwanis Stadium.
