The University of Illinois Springfield athletics department has released its schedules for its five sports teams that have their national championships in the fall season. The Prairie Stars will be hosting 26 competitions in the fall.
Â
The sport seasons will start a week earlier than usual due to the NCAA Division II Fall Festival at the end of the year, with teams being able to start play on August 25. UIS will have home action right away that weekend, with UIS women's soccer hosting Parkside on the 25th and then taking on Tiffin two days later.
Â
Men's soccer and volleyball are both on the road for that first weekend of play. Men's soccer will be at Kiwanis Stadium for the first time on August 31, while volleyball's home opener is on Sept. 9. Also on Sept. 9, UIS cross country will host the Seventh Annual Prairie Star Invitational.
Â
Conference action begins on Sept. 11 with UIS soccer hosting Missouri S&T. The first conference match for volleyball is on Sept. 16 with the Prairie Stars hosting GLVC Tournament Finalist Missouri-St. Louis. Both soccer teams and volleyball will play a 12-match round robin GLVC schedule this year, with the top eight teams at the end of the year making the GLVC Postseason Tournaments.
Â
For cross country, the Prairie Stars will run in the GLVC Championships on Nov. 5, followed by the NCAA Midwest Regional two weeks later.
