The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team ended its regular season on Sunday with a sweep over Truman State. The Prairie Stars celebrated Senior Day by winning their fifth straight series, and clinching the most regular season wins in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region.

In game one, UIS broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning, and it eventually won by an 11-0 score.

Cameron Zunkel,
Cameron Leff, and
Cade Sestak combined for a one-hitter. The trio struck out nine, and did not walk a batter. Zunkel started and threw five innings. He faced the minimum 15 batters in that time. The only hit he allowed was a grounder up the middle that just got passed the shortstop. Leff and Sestak both threw one inning, and each allowed just a hit batter. Sestak struck out two of the four batters he faced.

Anthony Deconcilis helped UIS pull ahead with a grand slam in the fifth inning.
Austin Alderman also homered and finished with two runs and two RBI.
Asher Bradd had three hits and two runs.

In game two, UIS scored five runs in the first inning, and eventually won by a 15-2 margin.

Seth Masters threw five innings and allowed just three hits and one run. Seniors
Luke Fitton,
Clarke Davenport, and
Mason Coon combined for the final six out of the game.

Brandon Bannon,
Kal Youngquist, and Alderman all homered in game two. Alderman had three hits, three RBI, and four runs to lead the offense. Youngquist drove in four and had two runs.
Zion Pettigrew and
Brant Vanaman each had two hits and two runs, and
Hunter Phelps had two hits and two RBI.

The Prairie Stars honored the best senior class in program history prior to the game, with 19 players playing at the UIS baseball field for the final time in a regular season contest.

UIS ends the regular season with a 39-8 overall record. It won the GLVC Blue Division with a 19-5 mark, four games better than the next closest competitor. The bracket for the conference tournament will be released on Sunday evening.
