The University of Illinois Springfield softball team fell in a single non-conference game against Missouri Western on Wednesday. The Prairie Stars lost 10-5 in Chatham, Ill.

UIS jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the game, but the Missouri Western offense exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning. The Griffons had seven hits in the inning, including a three-run double and three-run homer that turned a 4-4 tie into a 10-4 Griffon advantage.

Jillian Mathis was three-for-three in the game with one run and one RBI.
Danielle Dennis scored twice.
Laney Gowin was two-for-two and also had one run and one RBI.
Payton Long threw 6 2/3 innings and allowed no runs. She struck out 12 and allowed just one walk and seven hits.

UIS falls to 22-13 on the season. The Prairie Stars have GLVC road games this weekend at William Jewell and Truman State.
