The University of Illinois Springfield softball team could not get its bats going on Friday in Rolla, Mo. The Prairie Stars were swept by Missouri S&T by scores of 5-0 and 3-0.
Â
In the opener, UIS was able to get on base, but couldn't get the runners home. The Prairie Stars batted just two-of-11 with runners on base, and stranded eight in the game.
Â
The game was scoreless going into the sixth inning. UIS got its leadoff hitter on with a
Jillian Mathis single. The pinch runner was called out though for leaving the base early, which came back to haunt the team after
Zoie Bowman hit a double. Bowman ended up being stranded to keep the game scoreless.
Â
In the bottom of the six, UIS was one strike away from getting out of the inning, but a bases loaded walk gave the Miners the lead. That was followed by two straight two-RBI hits which sealed the win for the home team.
Â
In game two, UIS only managed three hits, two of them off the bat of
Carly Chovanec. Once again, the Miners scored all of their runs in just one inning. The Miners got an extra out in the fifth after a UIS error, and Missouri S&T hit a two-out, three-run homer for the game's only runs.
Â
UIS falls to 31-16 on the season, and 15-11 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars end the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Drury.
