Brandon Bannon Sets Program Runs Record In Baseball's Sweep Over Missouri S&T

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team continued its longest winning streak of the season on Saturday in Rolla, Mo., and Brandon Bannon made some program history in the team's 8-3 and 12-3 sweep over Missouri S&T.

In the first inning of game two, Bannon scored on a wild pitch and became the program's all-time leader in runs. He scored one more time and ended the day with 158 career runs. Fifty-eight of those runs have come this season, and he ranks in the top-15 nationally in runs per game.

In the day's first game, UIS had a balanced offense, with eight different players having hits, and eight different players crossing the plate one time. Asher Bradd led the team with four hits and three RBI. Pettigrew also had two hits and Barnard drove in two.

UIS trailed 3-0 in the game, but took a 4-3 lead after a three-run fifth inning. Bannon scored the tying run on a hit by Pettigrew, and Pettigrew later scored on an error.

Seth Masters earned the win, allowing one earned run in five innings. He struck out five, and allowed five hits and one walk. Matt Blaney pitched the final two innings for the save.

In the second game, UIS never trailed as it scored in every inning but one. Quinn Gudaitis threw four innings and allowed just one unearned run. He had four hits and four strikeouts. Cameron Zunkel threw two innings of relief and struck out five, and he did not allow a hit.

Offensively, Brant Vanaman had two hits, two runs, and three RBI. Austin Alderman and Hunter Phelps had two runs and two RBI. Bradd added two hits and two runs.
