Women's Tennis Ends Regular Season With Two Home Games

The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis team ends its regular season this week with a pair of home games. The Prairie Stars look to clinch a spot in the GLVC Tournament when they face Maryville on Friday and Lindenwood on Saturday.
 
UIS enters play this week with a 7-8 overall record, and a 2-2 conference mark. The Prairie Stars are fourth in the East Division standings, one game behind Maryville and one ahead of McKendree and Lindenwood. The top four teams at the end of the weekend will advance to the conference tournament.
 
The Prairie Stars moved into the fourth spot after a 5-2 victory over Southern Indiana last weekend. UIS won the doubles point after winning No. 2 and No. 3, and then won every singles match between No. 2 and No. 5.
 
UIS has been hot lately in the middle of the lineup. The Prairie Stars are 8-1 in their last five duals at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, and 4-1 in that span at No. 2 doubles.
 
Carmen Llopis Fabra was named the GLVC Player of the Week for her performance against Southern Indiana. She clinched the doubles point for the Prairie Stars after she and Franca Bucco won the No. 2 match by a 6-2 margin. She then shutout her opponent in two sets for a win at No. 3 singles.
 
UIS vs. Maryville

All-Time Series (NCAA Era): Series tied 5-5

Maryville enters action this week with a 9-5 overall record, and it is currently 3-1 in GLVC play.
 
Last weekend, the Saints defeated Lewis by a 4-2 score, and then fell to Indianapolis by a 7-0 margin. In the win over Lewis, Emily Orlove led the way by winning both her doubles and singles match.
 
In 2021, Maryville defeated UIS by a 5-2 score. UIS won the doubles point, as well as the No. 1 singles contest. Two of Maryville singles wins were in a third set, and two others were by default.
 
UIS vs. Lindenwood
Date/Time/Location: Saturday, April 23, 11:00 a.m. – Chatham, Ill.
All-Time Series (NCAA Era): Lindenwood leads 5-3

Lindenwood is .500 on the season with a 6-6 overall record, and it is currently 1-4 in GLVC play.
 
Last weekend, UIS fell to both Indianapolis and Lewis by scores of 6-1 and 4-0 respectively.
 
UIS has won three straight against the Lions, and it is 3-5 all-time against Lindenwood. Last season, UIS won by a 4-3 margin, but it was 5-1 in matches that were contested.

The GLVC Tournament will take place on April 29-May 1 in St. Louis, Mo.
