University of Illinois Springfield baseball player Seth Masters was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Masters earned the honor for the first time in his career, and he is the third Prairie Star pitcher to earn the award this season.
 
Masters went 2-0 last week with a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings on the mound. He allowed just five hits and two walks in that span, and he struck out 14 batters.
 
Masters opened the week by starting the midweek game against Missouri-St. Louis. He threw six innings and allowed just two hits. He struck out nine in that game. Over the weekend, Masters entered the game in relief and got UIS out of a bases loaded jam with no runs scoring. He would wind up throwing four frames and giving up just three hits and one walks. He struck out five in that outing.
 
Masters is now 2-1 on the season with one save. He has a 2.05 ERA and opponents are batting just .207 off of him. He has given up just 17 hits and six walks in 22 innings, and he has 27 strikeouts on the year.
