The Illinois Springfield baseball team moved up seven spots to No. 17 in this week's NCBWA Division II Top 25 poll, marking the program's highest national ranking of the season.
The Prairie Stars (22-7, 11-1 GLVC) continue to surge after a dominant weekend, highlighted by a four-game sweep of Quincy. UIS has now won seven straight and sits near the top of the GLVC standings with one of the league's best starts.
Grand Valley State remains the top-ranked team in the Midwest region at No. 6 nationally, jumping from No. 12, and is currently the only team in the region ranked ahead of UIS. No other GLVC programs are ranked in this week's top 25.
UIS also made a significant move in the latest Midwest Regional poll, climbing from No. 3 to No. 2 with 62 points. The Prairie Stars trail only Grand Valley State (24-4), which holds the top spot with 70 points. Wayne State, previously ranked No. 1 in the region, dropped to No. 3.
Maryville made one of the biggest jumps in the region, moving up to No. 4, while Missouri S&T entered the rankings at No. 7. Quincy, after being swept by UIS, fell from No. 4 to No. 9.
In addition to the NCBWA recognition, UIS is also receiving votes in this week's ABCA national poll.
With momentum building and conference play heating up, the Prairie Stars will look to continue their climb in both the national and regional rankings in the weeks ahead.
