Women's Tennis Travels To Southern Indiana For Key GLVC Match

The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis has its final regular season road match of the season on Friday afternoon in Evansville, ind. The Prairie Stars will be taking on Southern Indiana at 2 p.m.
 
UIS enters the week with a 6-8 overall record, and a 1-2 GLVC mark. The Prairie Stars will likely need at least two, and possibly three wins, in their final three games in order to earn a bid to the GLVC Tournament.
 
The Prairie Stars fell twice last weekend to Indianapolis and Lewis. UIS lost to top-10 Indianapolis by a 4-2 margin, and then were swept by Lewis by a 4-0 score.
 
As a team, UIS is 38-40 in singles play during dual matches, and 17-24 in doubles action. UIS has won over 60 percent of its matches at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, and at No. 3 doubles.
 
Franca Bucco has been hot for the Prairie Stars, going 6-1 over the team's last four duals, and she was leading her Lewis singles match as well before it was called before being completed. Bucco and Riann Hsu both lead the team with nine singles wins. Piper Schrepferman has a team-best eight doubles victories, seven of them with Hsu.

All-Time Series (NCAA Era): UIS leads 4-3

Southern Indiana is 7-6 in its final NCAA Division II season, including a 0-2 mark in GLVC play. The Screaming Eagles have lost to Maryville and Lindenwood in conference action.
 
Southern Indiana is strong at the top of its singles lineup with Lauren Rowe and Rachel McCorkle both having double-digit wins while primarily playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
 
In doubles play, the Screaming Eagles have captured the team point in seven of their 13 duals. The No. 1 pair of McCorkle and Rowe, as well as the No. 3 duo of Abby Myers and Kylie Skepnek, are both 8-5 on the year.
 
Last season, UIS defeated Southern Indiana by a 5-2 margin. The Prairie Stars won every match that was contested in the GLVC dual.

UIS ends its regular season on April 22-23 when Maryville and Lindenwood come to town to complete conference action for the Prairie Stars.
