The University of Illinois Springfield softball team finished off a perfect weekend on the road by sweeping Truman State on Sunday afternoon in Kirksville, Mo. The Prairie Stars won by scores of 6-4 and 12-4.

UIS scored four times in the first inning of the day and never trailed in the opener. The Prairie Stars led 6-1 before the Bulldogs made things exciting in the bottom of the seventh. Truman scored three times and had the bases loaded before a fly out ended the game.

Payton Long threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run. She gave up eight hits and one walk, and struck out five. Offensively,
Ella Brinkley,
Danielle Dennis,
Jillian Mathis, and
Laney Gowin all had two hits. Dennis scored twice and
Ramsey Armstrong drove in two runners.

In game two, UIS already led 3-0 before it broke the game open with an eight-run third inning. The Prairie Stars had just seven hits, but took advantage of six walks and two errors.

Ten different players scored in the game for the Prairie Stars, including two each by Brinkley and Gowin. Brinkley also had two hits and two RBI, and Mathis and Gowin also had two hits. Dennis drove in a pair of runners and had a home run.
Reagan Miles earned the win and
Addyson McClure pitched the final two innings. Neither pitcher gave up an earned run.

UIS improves to 26-13 overall and 10-8 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home next Saturday to face Maryville at noon.
