The University of Illinois Springfield softball team's GLVC winning streak reached eight games on Saturday at Spartan Park in Chatham, Ill. The Prairie Stars swept Maryville by scores of 8-4 and 5-0.

UIS held a narrow 5-4 lead in the sixth inning of game one. Maryville's leadoff hitter reached to start that inning, but the Prairie Stars
Grace Harris threw her out trying to steal second, her second caught stolen base runner in the game. The Saints did not get another runner after that in the UIS victory.

Jillian Mathis led UIS at the plate, going three-for-three and having four of the team's six RBI.
Danielle Dennis scored four times, and
Carly Chovanec and
Ella Brinkley each had two runs. Brinkley also had three hits.

Payton Long threw a complete game on the mound. She allowed just two earned runs and struck out eight batters.

In game two,
Reagan Miles threw a four-hit shutout. She walked just one and struck out six batters. Offensively, UIS scored all of its run in the third and fourth innings. Chovanec scored two more times to pace a balanced offense in the second contest.

UIS improves to 28-13 on the season, and 12-8 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars return home next Saturday to face Southwest Baptist.
