Softball Ends Springfield Classic With Doubleheader Split Versus Ohio Dominican

The University of Illinois Springfield softball team ended play at the Springfield Classic by splitting a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican. The Prairie Stars lost the opener by a 4-2 margin, and then won the second game, 1-0.

UIS couldn't get enough key hits in the opening game, as it stranded eight runners, including five in its final three at-bats. Danielle Dennis and Ella Brinkley each had two hits. Brinkley and Carly Chovanec scored, while Dennis and Kayana Diederich had the RBIs.

Courtney Blackwell went five innings in the start, and gave up four runs and eight hits. Addyson McClure pitched the final two innings, striking out two and allowing just one hit.

In the second game, Reagan Miles threw a shutout for UIS. She allowed just four hits and one walk, and struck out nine batters. She allowed a runner past first base just once in the fourth inning. The Panthers had runs on third and second with one out, but Miles got a strikeout and lineout to end the threat.

Offensively, the only run came on a solo home run by Carly Chovanec in the third inning. Carolyn Franke was two-for-two in the game.

UIS ends the Springfield Classic with a 4-2 record, and it is now 14-4 on the season. The Prairie Stars start GLVC play next Friday at home against Missouri-St. Louis.
