Colton Hale Records His 20th Career Win On the Mound

University of Illinois Springfield baseball player Colton Hale won his 20th career game on Friday at the UIS Baseball Field. He helped the Prairie Stars two-hit Parkside in a 3-1 victory.

Hale allowed a solo homer to lead off the second inning, but followed it up by giving up just one more hit through seven innings. He struck out 13 in his outing, and gave up just one run, two hits, and three walks.

Matt Blaney earned the save after pitching a perfect eighth and ninth inning. He struck out three, giving UIS 16 strikeouts on the day.

With his win, Hale is now 20-2 in his UIS career. He is just the second Prairie Star to record 20 wins as a Prairie Star. Hale lowered his season ERA to 1.64, and he is now 3-0 on the year.

Asher Bradd played a role in all three of UIS's runs. In the third, he led the inning off with a single, and eventually scored on a groundout. Two innings later, he also had a leadoff single. He was out on a fielder's choice by Brandon Bannon, but Bannon scored later in the inning on a Parkside error. In the seventh, Bradd had a sacrifice bunt to put Johnny Colombo in scoring position, and Colombo would later score on a groundout.

Bradd and Bannon each had two hits and one run. Zion Pettigrew and Kal Youngquist had the team's RBIs.

UIS improves to 9-3 on the season. The Prairie Stars and Parkside will play a doubleheader on Saturday at the UIS Baseball Field.
