The University of Illinois Springfield softball team split a GLVC doubleheader against Lewis on Friday in Chatham, Ill. The Prairie Stars won game one by a 7-3 score, but lost the second game by a 13-7 margin.

UIS trailed 3-0 after the first half inning of the first game, but scored seven unanswered runs over its next four at-bats for the win.

Addyson McClure entered the game in the second and did not allow a run. She scattered just four hits in the final six innings, including getting 14 groundball outs.

Offensively,
Kelsie Burrows put UIS ahead for good in the third with a two-out RBI single. UIS would add one more later that inning, and put up two insurance runs in the fourth.

Carly Chovanec and
Jillian Mathis each had two hits in the game, and
Carolyn Franke scored twice.

UIS also led 7-3 in game two, but Lewis had a nine-run sixth inning to turn the tables. The Flyers had six hits and took advantage of two errors in that frame.

UIS moves to 19-11 on the season, and 3-7 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars will be in action again on Sunday at home against nationally-ranked Indianapolis.
