The University of Illinois Springfield softball team started strong in its doubleheader at Southern Indiana on Monday, but it couldn't finish the Screaming Eagles off. Southern Indiana ended the day with a 6-5 and 8-0 victories over the Prairie Stars.

UIS jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first game. Southern Indiana stole back momentum though by tying the game in the sixth inning, and then won in walk-off fashion in the seventh. In the second game, Southern Indiana remained hot, scoring eight times in the first three innings.

Laney Gowin had three hits in the first game, and
Jillian Mathis had a triple, homer, and two RBI.
Danielle Dennis also drove in two in the game.

Carly Chovanec,
Carolyn Franke, and
Jacy Watts had UIS's three hits.

UIS falls to 18-10 on the season and 2-6 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars will return home this weekend for GLVC doubleheaders against Lewis and Indianapolis.
