Women's Golf Shows Big Improvement In Second Round Of First Spring Tournament

The University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team began its spring season this weekend at the Saginaw Valley Spring Invitational in Georgetown, Ky. The Prairie Stars improved by 28 shots on day two of the event.
 
UIS, which was playing one golfer short on the weekend, carded a 368 in the opening round. It improved to a 340 during the second day of the event, with all four of its players improving by three or more shots. The Prairie Stars final score of 708 was 11th in the 12-team field.
 
Isabel Segal jumped 11 spots on Sunday and finished in the top-25 individually. She had rounds of 86 and 76, with the latter being a new career-low for her. She had a team-high three birdies, and was second with 17 pars.
 
Madison DeRousse was second on the team by shooting a 169, including a low round of 83 in her second trip around the course. She had a 3.25 average on par-three holes, the fifth-best mark at the tournament.
 
Rounding out the team scoring was Sara Prieto with a 176, and Arielle Fisher with a 201. Prieto's best round was an 83, while Fisher had a 98 on Sunday.
 
UIS is in action again on March 29-28 at the Holiday Inn Express Invitational in St. Joseph, Mo.
