Lewis put the Prairie Stars in an early hole on Monday night in Romeoville, Ill., and University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team could not get out of it. The Flyers defeated UIS by a 72-60 margin.

Lewis came out hot from the field, shooting 56.3 percent for the first 10 minutes. That included scoring on five of its final six possessions, which turned a 9-9 tie into a 21-13 Flyers advantage. Lewis answered every run that UIS made for the rest of the game, as it did not allow the Prairie Stars to get closer than six the rest of the way. The final time was early in the fourth quarter, but a three-point play sparked an 8-0 Lewis run that clinched the contest for the Flyers.

UIS finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field, and just two-of-16 from three-point range. Lewis made 47.5 percent of its shots for the game, including six three-pointers. The Prairie Stars had an advantage at the free-throw line, where they made 16-of-17 shots.

Ally Gietzel had a season-high 20 points. She made eight-of-14 from the field, and all four of her free-throw attempts.
Malea Jackson was also in double-figures with 14.
Lauren Ladowski led the team with six rebounds, and she and
Ellie Mitchell both tied with team-highs of three assists.

UIS falls to 13-7 overall and 8-6 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are next on the road on Thursday night at William Jewell.
