The University of Illinois Springfield men's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Monday night in Evansville, Ind. The Prairie Stars lost in the first round of the GLVC Tournament with an 81-52 loss to Southern Indiana.
 
UIS trailed by just five late in the first half, but back-to-back three-pointers by the Screaming Eagles sparked a run that eventually helped Southern Indiana lead 34-25 at halftime. UIS got the lead back to five early in the first half, but key three-pointers again kept the Prairie Stars at bay. Southern Indiana then pulled away for the remainder of the second half.
 
Southern Indiana shot 55.4 percent from the field, and made 14-of-29 three-pointers. UIS shot just 33.3 percent from the field, and 24.1 percent from three-point range.
 
UIS's two seniors, Chris Hamil and Jesus Castillo, both had good final games in a Prairie Star uniform. Hamil led the team with 12 points, and Castillo made three three-pointers and finished with nine points. Jack Weber also had nine points on four-of-seven shooting. Jacob Hanna pulled down seven rebounds. Jordan Rice and Chase Robinson each had three assists, and Rice led the team with four steals.
 
UIS ends its season with a 12-17 overall record.
