The University of Illinois Springfield softball team is off to its best 10-game start in its NCAA era after winning two more games on Saturday. At the Blue Bridge Battle, the Prairie Stars defeated Wheeling and Ashland.

UIS shutout Wheeling in five innings by a 9-0 score in the first game of the day.

Reagan Miles threw a one-hit shutout and struck out four on the day. She stranded two runners in the first two innings, and then threw a perfect third, fourth, and fifth frame.

Offensively, the top three in the lineup had seven runs with
Danielle Dennis scoring three times and
Carly Chovanec and
Ashley Klinzing each scoring twice. Dennis also had a double and two RBI.

In the second game, UIS defeated regional rival Ashland by a 4-1 margin.

The Prairie Stars scored all four runs in the second, with the big hit being a two-run double by
Laney Gowin. Gowin and Chovanec each had a team-high two hits.

On the mound,
Payton Long threw a complete game. She allowed six hits and the one run, and she struck out seven.

UIS is now 9-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars end the Blue Bridge Battle on Sunday versus Slippery Rock and Northwood.
