The University of Illinois Springfield pitchers put on a dominating performance on Saturday in Joplin, Mo., which led the Prairie Stars to a 4-0 victory over Missouri Western.

A trio of UIS pitchers allowed just two hits, two walks, and two hit by pitches in the shutout victory. The Prairie Stars struck out 19 batters, one shy of the school record. The Griffons did not advance a runner to third base, and they did not put a ball in play after the fifth inning.

Colton Hale threw six innings in his start. He scattered just two hits, and had one walk and two hit batters. He struck out 10 batters. He retired 11 straight at one point with perfect innings through the second and fourth innings.

Mason Coon threw two innings of relief. He struck out six of the seven batters, and walked one.
Matt Blaney threw a perfect ninth, striking out all three batters.

Offensively, UIS scored two in the first after a two-out Missouri Western error. It added unnecessary insurance runs in the third and seventh inning.

The top of the lineup of
Asher Bradd,
Brandon Bannon, and
Zion Pettigrew combined for three hits and four runs. Bannon had two of the runs and reached base three times in five plate appearances.
Austin Alderman and
Brant Vanaman each had a RBI.
