Baseball Splits Opening Series After Loss On Sunday

The University of Illinois Springfield baseball team fell in game four of its series at Tusculum. The Prairie Stars lost 6-4, and split the first set of contests of 2022.

The Prairie Stars fell in a 4-0 hole after one inning, but fought back to tie the game with two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Austin Alderman drove in Kal Youngquist with a double, and then scored on a wild pitch later on. An inning later, an error extended the inning for the Prairie Stars and two unearned runs scored.

Tusculum recaptured the lead in the sixth, though, and neither team was able to score the rest of the game.

Younquist finished the game with two of the team's four hits, and he scored twice. Alderman had one run and one RBI, and Brandon Brandon had the other run and hit.

UIS used six pitchers, and they combined for nine strikeouts in eight innings. Eddie Wilkins had the best showing, going two innings and not allowing a hit. Brendan Anderseon and Ian Delleman each pitched one scoreless frame.

UIS will be in action again next week at the MIAA/GLVC Crossover in Joplin, Mo.
