The University of Illinois Springfield women's basketball team took care of the ball and played good defense in its win over McKendree on Saturday. The Prairie Stars earned the road victory by a score of 69-57.

UIS turned the ball over just seven times in the game, tying for its fewest turnovers in a game since moving to the NCAA level. The Prairie Stars also forced turnovers, and had a 17-4 edge in points off turnovers.

Defensively, the Prairie Stars held the Bearcats to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including 17.6 percent from three-point range. Offensively, UIS shot 36.2 percent in the game, and had 18 more field goal attempts.

UIS scored the final six points of the first quarter to grab a 16-10 lead in the game. It kept increasing the lead through the second and third quarters, before finishing the contest off in the fourth.

For the third straight game, both
Malea Jackson and
Lauren Ladowski had 20 or more points. Jackson scored 23, while Ladowski had 21, and the pair combined to shoot 15-of-28 from the field.
Ellie Mitchell and
Carson Vance each added six points. Other teams leaders were
Ally Gietzel with 11 rebounds, and Ladowski with four assists, one block, and four steals.

UIS improves to 9-6 overall and 4-5 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are off until a home game on Thursday versus Lewis.
