The University of Illinois Springfield track and field program began its indoor season on Friday in Bellarmine, Ky. The Prairie Stars had a pair of runner-up finishes at the meet, including a new school record.

In his Prairie Stars debut, Noah McIntyre set the program record in the mile. He finished in a time of 4:12.40, breaking the previous mark by nearly 10 seconds. That mark placed him second in a field that saw five of the top eight runners coming from the GLVC.

The other second-place finish was from Gloria Esarco in the 3,000m. She was the top NCAA Division II runner in the race with a mark of 10:21.68.

Other notables on the day included Margaret George placing eighth in the shot put, Chris Cherry coming in eighth in the mile, and Taryn Christy coming in tenth in the mile.

UIS will be in action again next Friday at the GVSU BILL CLINGER CLASSIC.
