The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer program gave No. 3 Lynn a major fight on Sunday morning in St. Louis, Mo. The Prairie Stars kept the Fighting Knights off the scoreboard for over 101 minutes, but Lynn eventually got an overtime goal for a 1-0 win over UIS.

The two teams spent most of the first half feeling each other out. There were just eight total shots in the period, including two that went on goal.

 In the second half, Lynn started having more possession time. In the 50th minute, the Fighting Knights got a shot past UIS goalie
Pijus Petkevicius, but a defender was able to clear it at the last second before cross the line. Petkevicius made six other saves in that period to keep the game scoreless despite Lynn having a 10-1 shot advantage in the half.

Neither team had a shot on goal in the first overtime period. Early in the second overtime, Lynn drew a foul and sent the free kick into the box. A UIS defender headed the ball out, but it went right to a Lynn player. That player took a shot into a crowd of players. One of the Fighting Knights was able to redirect the shot past Petkevicius for the game-winner.

Petkevicius ended the match with seven total saves. The defensive effort included
Drew Keller and
Marvin Zott who each played every minute in the game.

UIS falls to 1-1-0 on the season. The Prairie Stars end non-conference play on Thursday at Parkside.
