Women's Soccer Earns Road Victory Over Southern Indiana

The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team earned its first victory over the University of Southern Indiana on Friday night in Evansville, Ind. The Prairie Stars scored once in each half in the 2-1 victory over the Screaming Eagles.

UIS was outshot 20-3 in the game, including an 11-2 mark in shots on goal. The Prairie Stars took advantage of their opportunities though, and got a big game from goalie Allison Mirimanian, to capture the win.

In the 17th minute, Sierra Cenek made a run down the left side of the field, and crossed the ball to the middle of the box. Abby Dellamorte was on the receiving end of the pass and scored. The second goal came in the 63rd minute. UIS worked the ball down the field after a goal kick. After crossing midfield, Ally Fischer passed to Claire Sever, who took a shot from outside the box and got it over the goalkeeper's arms.

Mirimanian was the rest of the story for the Prairie Stars. She made 10 saves in the game, with five in each period. The only shot that got passed her was in the 89th minute. Southern Indiana had one more chance in the final 30 seconds with a free kick, but the shot went straight to Mirimanian which sealed the victory.

UIS improves to 5-1-1 on the year, and 3-1-0 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are in action again on Sunday at McKendree.
