Late Goal Helps Women's Soccer Tie Purdue Northwest In Season Opener

Box Score The University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team opened its 2021 season on Thursday afternoon with a 1-1 tie at Purdue Northwest. The Prairie Stars got a late goal in the game to force what turned into a scoreless overtime period.
 
UIS started strong, but it was the Pride who scored the first goal of the year. In the 27th minute, Purdue Northwest put a shot from just outside the box into the top right portion of the goal.
 
The Prairie Stars dominated the action for most of the game after that, and it finally paid dividends in the 86th minute. Claire Sever sent a pass to Sierra Cenek in the middle of the box, and Cenek completed the game-tying score.
 
Neither team scored again, and the game was officially called a tie before the second overtime could be completed due to darkness.
 
UIS finished with a 27-12 edge in total shots, and a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. UIS also led 10-6 in corner kicks.
 
In her first collegiate game, Allison Mirimanian made five saves in goal. Abby Dellamorte had a team-high five shots, and Emily Tully had a team-best three shots on goal. Five position players played the entire game in Claire Sokol, Megan Little, Brooke Biffar, Angela Dagnino, and Maggie Joos.
 
UIS returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a neutral site game in Romeoville, Ill. against Tiffin.
