Men's Soccer Continues Friday Streak With Win Over Missouri-St. Louis

The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team moved to 2-0-0 in GLVC play after a 2-1 win over Missouri-St. Louis on Friday night at Lee Field in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars also moved its Friday night home unbeaten streak to 19 contests with the victory.

UIS controlled play in the first half, but the Tritons scored the period's only goal in the 42nd minute. The Prairie Stars trailed at the break, despite outshooting Missouri-St. Louis 7-2, and having a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Early in the second half, the Prairie Stars struck twice early to take the lead. Rory Carlson got behind the defense, including the goalkeeper, after a pass from Browel Some in the 51st minute and slipped a shot in the goal. Less than eight minutes later, UIS executed three straight passes inside the box. The third one was from Browel Some to Lars Brinkman, and Brinkman tapped it into the goal.

UIS's defense did the rest, allowing just two shots the rest of the 30 minutes, and only one of those shots was on goal.

UIS outshot Missouri-St. Louis 12-4 in the game, including 3-1 in shots on goal. Pijus Petkevicius made one save and earned the win in goal. Marvin Zott had a team-high three shots on the night.

The Prairie Stars are 3-2-0 on the season. UIS is in action again on Sunday at Lindenwood.
