Four Baseball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

Four members of the University of Illinois Springfield baseball program were named to one of the CoSIDA NCAA Division II Academic All-District teams on Thursday. The honorees were infielder Chris Monroe, outfielders Austin Alderman and Chris Mathieu, and designated hitter Kal Youngquist.
 
The UIS baseball program dominated the Academic All-District list with four of the 12 overall selections from the Midwest Region. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
 
Monroe batted .343 this past year for UIS with a .651 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage. He had 47 runs, 58 hits, 14 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, and 51 RBI. He finished third in the league in homers, and was top-10 in hits, doubles, runs, RBI, and slugging percentage.
 
In his career, Monroe batted .341 with a .596 slugging percentage and .408 on-base percentage. He had 118 runs, 142 RBI, 167 hits, 33 doubles, and 30 home runs, all marks which rank in the top-10 in UIS history.
 
Alderman, a first-team all-GLVC and second-team all-region performer, batted .361 in 2021 with a .605 slugging percentage and .470 on-base percentage. He had 48 runs, 53 hits, nine doubles, three triples, seven home runs, and 35 RBI. He ranked sixth in the league in runs.
 
In his three-year UIS career, Alderman is batting .349 with a .573 slugging and .451 on-base percentage. In 104 games, he has 102 runs, 88 RBI, and 15 homers. He is currently top-five in UIS history in batting average and on-base percentage.
 
Mathieu had one of the best seasons of his career this past year, batting .370 with a .617 slugging and .440 on-base percentage. He has 50 runs, 60 hits, 13 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, and 43 RBI. Mathieu was named second-team all-GLVC and second-team all-region. He was second in the league in runs, and seventh in hits.
 
Mathieu ended his career with a .330 batting average, .508 slugging percentage, and .412 on-base percentage. He had 136 runs, 172 hits, 25 doubles, seven triples, 18 home runs, and 106 RBI as a Prairie Star. Mathieu is the school's all-time leader with 180 games played, and ranked in the top-five in runs and RBI.
 
Youngquist was a first-team All-American, all-region, and all-GLVC player this past season. He batted .420 with a .757 slugging percentage and .503 on-base percentage. He had 50 runs, 71 hits, 22 doubles, 11 home runs, and 58 RBI. He led the GLVC in doubles and RBI, and was top-five in batting average, hits, home runs, on-base percentage, runs, and slugging percentage.
 
In two seasons at UIS, Youngquist has played in 56 games, and he has a .406 batting average, .736 slugging percentage, and .486 on-base percentage. He has 62 runs, 86 hits, 26 doubles, 14 home runs, and 70 RBI. His batting, slugging, and on-base numbers are all currently second all-time in UIS history for a career.
