The University of Illinois Springfield women's tennis squad opened up GLVC play on Saturday in Chatham, Ill. with a 5-2 victory over McKendree. The Prairie Stars lost just one set on the day in their six matches.

In doubles,
Neha Mokhasi and
Sina Skjelstad won No. 1 by a 6-4 margin, and
Carol Quevedo and
Franca Bucco won No. 2 doubles by a 6-1 mark.

Quevedo had a dominant 6-1 and 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles position. Skjelstad won the No. 2 match by a 6-2 and 6-4 squad. At No. 3, Bucco went to a third set before prevailing by a 6-1 score in the final set. Mokhasi won her first set at No. 4 in a tiebreaker, and then won the second set by a 6-4 score.

UIS improves to 7-1 overall. The Prairie Stars next travel to nationally-ranked Indianapolis next Friday.
