The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team achieved its best start in the program's NCAA history on Saturday in Chatham, Ill. The Prairie Stars opened GLVC play with a 6-1 win over McKendree.

The match was decided by four singles matches that went to a third set. UIS won three of those four matches which was the difference. Those three victories came at the top three spots, with
Menno Servaes winning No. 1,
Tomas Martinez winning No. 2, and
Rafa Rojas collecting the No. 3 victory.

UIS's other wins in singles came in straight sets from
Nick Revin at No. 4 and
Matthew Lapsley at No. 6.

The Prairie Stars captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Servaes and Martinez won at the top spot, and Lapsley and Revin captured the No. 2 position.

UIS improves to 7-1 on the season. The Prairie Stars are in action again next Friday at Indianapolis.
